Honolulu Mineral, Fossil, Gem and Jewelry Show
Last Updated: 11th Nov 2023By Dan Polhemus
We went to the first ever Honolulu Mineral, Fossil, Gem and Jewelry Show this morning. It is being held at the Hawaii Convention Center, just across the canal from Waikiki, which is a very pleasant venue with a tropical theme.
The Convention Center foyer
You know you are in the Pacific, from the general décor to the names on the exhibit halls.
The entry to the show.
This is the first year that the show has been held. It is being promoted by the same folks who run the Denver Coliseum Show in September each year. As such, it is a small event, but there are still a good mix of dealers offering a variety of things for sale, from mineral specimens to fossils to jewelry.
Eocene fossil fish just inside the door - not a common sight in Honolulu.
Crystals and jewelry are here for the crystal healing crowd.
Michael Shannon has flown in from Arizona with an assortment of western US minerals.
Some of the offerings at the Shannon booth, including nice wulfenites from southwest Utah (I picked up one of these for my own collection).
Good traffic also at the GeoFossiles booth. People in Hawaii do not see fossils that often and are quite fascinated by them.
The Gems Above LLC booth also draws interest from those young and old.
Perhaps the first marine dinosaur ever seen in Hawaii, courtesy Triebold Paleontology.
The show was a little slow when we first arrived at ten, but by noon there was a steady stream of traffic, and folks were making purchases, since this was a good chance to pick up unique Christmas presents not often seen in the islands. With luck the show will continue in future years.
