My new Wild M8 stereomicroscope

Last Updated: 19th Dec 2010

By Pierre Houssin

I had the opportunity to improve my stereomicroscope : a Wild M8 replaced the Wild M3.

modified Wild M8 stereomicroscope

I changed the old phototube by another newer one (better coating), better photo ocular (the same than on my homemade photomacroscope), a wonderful Leica Planapo 1x objective on a homemade axial holder and finally, a remotely controlled Canon S70 compact camera.

You can see one of the first picture I obtained (this is a "one shot" picture, not a stacked one)

So, I can conclude that, yes, it is possible to obtain wonderful picture with a stereomicroscope but it's rather expensive !

With a bit of study, you could use CombineZ and obtain some really awesome pics!!
Well purchased, my friend!! Your investment looks quite promising!

Thank you for your comment.
To use CombineZ, I prefer my photomacroscope. I wrote 2 articles about it : see my homepage

Outstanding rig! I'm working on attaching a Samsung NX10 to my Nikon SMZ 10. I'm hopeful that the mirrorless DSLR will reduce/eliminate the vibration problems I've been experiencing. The SMZ 10 is still a wonderful scope and imaging with it is very fast and easy (I can also do stereo sets with it).
