This is the underside of a typical hutchinsonite-orpiment specimen. The enargite, which is somewhat atypical for being iridescent and not elongated parallel to twinning striations, has been positively identified by SEM/EDS.

With quartz, pyrite, and black sphalerite. This specimen bears many exquisite hutchinsonite groups but offers one frustration: many of them are fractured or broken off, even those in protected recesses. Since there is no damage at all to the quartz or pyrite, and even the delicate orpiment is only slightly bruised on the most exposed points, I'm guessing that a blasting shockwave has done the damage to the very brittle hutchinsonite.

In my experience, the pyrite on this orpiment-hutchinsonite specimen is cleaner than most, with a fine luster. Abundant small, rounded black sphalerite crystals are also present.

The mineralization is over a matrix of massive sulfides; the underside has some pockets with fine euhedral enargite.
