About GlaucodotHide

Formula:
(Co0.50Fe0.50)AsS
Colour:
Grayish tin-white to reddish silver-white
Lustre:
Metallic
Hardness:

Name:
Named in 1849 by August Breithaupt and Karl Friedrich Plattner from the Greek γλαυκός for "sky-blue" and δίδω "to give", because of its use in making blue smalt glass (blue color caused by Co2+).
See also the chemically similar Cobaltite (ideally CoAsS) and Alloclasite (richer in Co than glaucodot). Compare 'UM1966-01-As:CoNiS'.
