Originally known as Pool Old Bal, the mine was worked for copper from the early 18th century until 1784. In 1834, it was restarted under the name East Pool Mine and changed to tin, also producing some arsenic and tungsten. In 1897, it was amalgamated with Wheal Agar under the name East Pool and Agar Mine.
Two preserved beam engines remain on the site of the mine, these being the winding engine of Mitchells Shaft and the 90-inch pumping engine on Taylors Shaft which lies some distance north of the road through Pool.
The Mindat icon shows the shaft, the engine house is on the left.
