Motto Piombino was in the past the most importan Pb-Zn mine in the Alto Vergante-Agogna Valley region.
The beginning of the works date back to 1861, when an English company directed by Eng. Eugene Francfort started to operate in the place. After a good period the interest for the mine declined and the mine was definitively closed in 1959. Today all tunnels are collapsed and the searches for minerals can be done only in the old dumps.

The mine is located at the distance of about 1 km from Alpe Agogna mine [see http://www.mindat.org/loc-259623.html]. Motto Piombino mine was part of a boarder permission for prospecting, exploration and mining activity (which covered also part of the former municipal territories of Nocco [merged with Gignese in 1928] and Brovello [since 1928 Brovello-Carpugnino]), whose name has varied over time and was sometimes known as "Agogna-Piombino Mines" and "Agogna-Brovello Mines".
