A group of 8 unpatented W-Ag-V-Mo-Au claims and former surface and underground mine located in sec. 8, T10S, R16E, about 1½ miles WSW of Campo Bonito and about 4 miles South of Oracle and ¾ mile SW of American Hill on the NE side of the Santa Catalina Mts, on National Forest land. Claims extend into sec. 5. Started 1939 by E.B. Lovejoy. Produced 1901-1961. Owned by Ed Burnett (1958). Operators included J.D. Burgess and Hazel Burnett. Additional names which apply to this property: Lovejoy Mine; Silver Lode.

Mineralization is a vein deposit related to a NE-trending fault mapped through the mine area with ore in tabular shoots, hosted in diabase. Located 1 to 1½ miles north of WNW-Trending Mogul fault. Precambrian diabase and aplite in the W-trending dikes. Local structures include block faulting trending NNW. The mineralization is related to Late Cretaceous-Tertiary granodiorite intrusion period. Younger porphyries are found 2 to 3 miles N of the mine, and 2 miles S, S of the Mogul Fault.

Produced about 210 pounds of WO3 concentrate (circa 1941).

Workings included a shaft 165 feet long, 100 feet of drifting and stopes at the 75 foot level. Workings described are probably those on the Silver lode claim.

See the Bear Cat group for claims which produced Mo, W and V. These claims are the same group as the American Flag; however, the Cu-Ag-Pb producing mine is different from the Mo-W-V producer described separately.
