Cameo Mine

A Cu-U occurrence/mine located in unsurveyed sec. 26, T36S, R16E, SLM, 4.3 km (2.67 mi) E of Fry Canyon (town). Along the N slope of the southern segment of Fry Mesa, along White Canyon (1.6 miles (2.57 km) N of "The Needle"), on private (?) and/or Bureau of Land Management administered land (located claim).

Operated by the CBC0 (sic) Mining Company (1974). Operated by the Butt Mining Company and owned by Utah Power and Light Company. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated (no data in any of the 3 MRDS files; MRDS file #10227752 presents geographic coordinates of 37.6078, -110.07851, which vary somewhat from the coordinates presented in the other 2 MRDS files). Collectively, the 3 MRDS files contain data elements that are questionable and possibly in error, as indicated by the "(sic)" and "?" entries.

Mineralization is hosted in sandstone of the Chinle Formation, Shinarump Member, and in conglomerate. The orebody is a tabular (& lenticular, irregular ?) replacement body that strikes N05W (N12W ?), dips 02W at a thickness of 1.2 (1.83 ?) meters, a depth-to-top of 1.83 (45.0 ?) meters, depth-to-bottom of 38.1 meters (?), a width of 60.96 (15.0 ?) meters and a length of 457.2 (305.0 ?; 762.0 ?) meters. Primary ore control was lithology. The degree of wall rock alteration is unknown. The minerals are aphanitic. Local rocks include Permian (1) sedimentary rocks in southeastern Utah and/or Triassic (1) sedimentary rocks in Salt southeastern Utah.

Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 38.1 meters and a length of 1,524 meters.

Production data are found in Utah Geological and Mining Survey study (unspecified) (1973).

Reserve-Resource data are found in Jones, H. (1977).
