Carbonaceous Chondrite (CV3.2-red, S4, W0)
In 1962 a single 21 kg stone was found during a soil survey of the Efremovka State Farm. Efremovka is one of the larger CV (Vigarano-like) carbonaceous chondrites. CV meteorites are distinguished by large chondrules, large refractory inclusions and abundant matrix as well as by their oxygen isotope ratios. Efremovka belongs to the reduced subgroup of CV meteorites [which includes Arch, Leoville, and Vigarano]. Efremovka’s inclusions have been the focus of a number of studies. The issue at hand is how to decipher the interactions between ancient planetismals and their surrounding nebular gas-and-dust. However, Efremovka’s strong pre-terrestrial shock [S4] and subsequent minor terrestrial weathering create additional challenges in interpreting its minerals, semi-ordered phases, and other aggregates.
