The Sissone valley begins 3 km after the village of Chiareggio.
It is likely one of the wider and more interesting collecting areas in the Central Alps (Italian side). Virtually interesting minerals can be found all over: even, with a bit of luck, in the boulders of the main river stream, a few minutes away from the car parking. Obviously the more you walk uphill the more you have chances to find interesting and beautifully crystallized minerals. Mineralogical richness of Sissone Valley is tied to its complex geology: an intrusive massif of Tertiary age (Masino-Bregaglia) is put in contact with Mesozoic Serpentinites of the Oceanic Crust (SE side) and intruded into a succession of Marbles and Paragneiss (NW side) developing complex implications and a lot of different "contact rocks".

A suggested tour is to park your car at Pian del Lupo, then start walking along the white road, which later turns into a path in the wood. In about one hour (one hour and half) you are half-way up the valley, at about 2000 meters height where researches can be done or along the main stream or in the lateral gullys ( especially of the hydrographic left) Walking up for one hour further (and more)the uppermost sections of the Valley can be reached, close to the cliffs of the mountains, including Mount Disgrazia.
