Operational under this name from 1929 to the end of 1932 by the Great Beacon Company. The original prospector was W. Thorner.
Even during this short time, there were several periods of inactivity due to a lack of water to undertake the crushing of ore. They erected a 2 head battery in 1932 capable of crushing 3 tonnes of ore over a 24 hour period.
Not that there was a lack of water as such, as a proverbial biblical flood of it occurred at the 155 foot level of the mine.
The problem was getting it to the surface. The company did not have the money to do this, and when the State Government declined to provide financial assistance to do so, the mine closed.
This also affected several other of the small operations nearby who were holding out for the water. The Calzoni's who largely took over the goldfield after this, partly solved the problem by constructing two dams, although at times their battery also closed due to a lack of water.
