This is a small isolated goldfield on the eastern margins of the wheatbelt. It is 70 kilometres south-west of Marvel Loch, 50 kilometres east of Nareembeen, and 50 kilometres north of Hyden. The main mining centre is located in the southern section of the Neendojer Nature Reserve, a large area of bushland surrounded by wheat farms.

Gold was discovered here by Alf Heaton and Joe Hollows in 1924. They conducted mining on their reward lease until the late 1920's. Other mines opened up shortly after including the Great Beacon and Glenelg Queen amongst others. The Symes discovery was a separate location in farmland about 10 kilometres to the north-east.

Initially in the 1920's the area was called Glenelg Hills, although there are no hills at the site. Later and until now it is known as Holleton or Holleton West.

The Calzoni brothers were the main operators during the 1930's, who had taken over Heaton and Hollow's mine and erected a 5 head battery.

Access is from the south by a number of wheatbelt backroads. Head east from Narembeen along the Mount Walker Road. Turn north into Gray Road, then at the T Junction west into Sloss Road. After a short distance the road turns north at a right angle into Holleton Road. The historic workings stretch for about two kilometres south to north in close proximity to the road, and ends at a modern abandoned pit.
