The Gordon Highlander Mine is approximately 25 kilometres south of Marvel Loch, and 100 metres east of the Marvel Loch-Forrestania Road, about 200 metres south of the Spring Hill Mine. A second area of historic workings is 100 metres further east of the Gordon Highlander, but whether it is part of the same mine, or a different location could not be determined.
Information is likely incomplete due to the prospecting nature of the field, and mines were operational before records were kept by the Mines Department.
In the early 1890's the mine was developed by Ben Strange of Perth. Under the Disputed name, the miners were Pat (Paddy) Hannan, who later discovered gold and founded Kalgoorlie, Jack Reidy who discovered the Kurnalpi Goldfield, Billy McIntosh who developed the McIntosh Mine also at Parker's Range, and three others. They took out 300 tonnes for 600 ounces.
The source in 1909 states good gold was taken out subsequent to the above operations, but no systematic development of the mine had taken place. Crushings were found in 1902, 1904, and 1907.
In 1909, V. Shallcross, on behalf on the Gold Industry of W.A. (organisation or company?), had taken a 12 month working option over the mine, and nearby Spring Hill at 200 acres in total. Shallcross states prior mining had cleared out the rich exposed patches leaving only low grade ore. Up to 1909 the mine has crushed 117 tonnes of ore for 44 ounces, but records are likely incomplete.
Activity at the site resumed across 1924 and 1925 by W.A. Patterson Jnr, and J. Dalziel. Patterson may have been the son of Alex Patterson who owned the nearby Spring Hill mine, but could not be confirmed. The quartz veins at Gordon Highlander are said to be smaller than Spring Hill but on the same line of lode.
