A large and productive copper, lead and zinc mine which operated from 1956 to 1999. Produced 14,500 kg Ag & 460 kg Au.
Owned by Heath Steele Mines & ASARCO (joint venture).
Mining was suspended in July 1993, resuming in November 1994.
Genetically a volcanogenic massive sulfide ore deposit.

The mine was initially developed as a collaboration between the American Metal Company (later Amax) and Inco (International Nickel Company) and consequently was also known as the Little River Joint Venture.

Situated 60 km northwest of Newcastle, New Brunswick.
