Named after two prominent Russian geologists, Viktor Sergeevitch Shibkov (Виктор Сергеевич Шибков) (1926-1992) and Nikolai Viktorovitch Shibkov (Николай Викторович Шибков) (1951-1991), who both spent their professional lives working on the geology of Soviet Asia.
