Named in honor of Dr. Brinley Roberts (1932 - 14th June 2018), mineralogist at Birkbeck College, University of London, "in recognition of his extensive research on the mineralogy and low-grade metamorphism of pelitic rocks of the United Kingdom", and specialist in British clay minerals.
