A Au-Co-Ni-Pb-Zn prospect/mine/occurrence located in the NW¼ sec. 21, T4N, R14E (MD), 3.0 km (9,900 feet) SE of Sheep Ranch. Operated in the 1870's to 12884, from 1885 to 1938. Intermittent work done. The Old Calaveras group was worked as early as 1872. MRD database accuracy for this location is not stated.

Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in quartzite and mica schist. The ore body strikes N70E and dips SE at a thickness of 1.22 meters. The country rock is the Calaveras Formation. There are 5 veins from 2 to 4 feet in thickness and trend NE. The principal vein is the Calaveras vein (N70E and dips SE). Small amounts of diorite and gabbro present in the dumps. Small amounts od smaltite and erythrite with arsenopyrite were found in a quartz stringer a few inches wide in mica schist and quartzite on the Cobalt prospect. The five veins are: the Calaveras (3 to 4 feet thick); Washington Pescia vein(6 feet thick); Intermediate vein (1.5 feet thick); Enchantress vein (2 feet thick; and, the South Bank vein (2.5 fet thick). Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).

Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 137.16 meters comprised of a 450 foot shaft Mar John or Calaveras shaft) with levels at 120, 240, 350 and 450 feet to the SE. Most of the stoping between two shafts. Crosscuts were driven to the NW and SE from the 350 level.

Production data are found in: Clark, Wm. B. & P.A. Lydon (1962)

Reserve-Resource data are found in: unpublished County report.
