Eastman Hill tin prospects; American Tin Company Mine
The occurrence of tin ore here was noticed by Charles T. Jackson in 1840. Several attempts were subsequently made to work the deposit. One company, The American Tin Company, chartered July 15, 1864, purchased 100 acres of land on what became known as Tin Mountain, and the mineral rights to an additional 900 acres. Two shafts were sunk: one 25 feet and the other 40 feet, and a 90-foot adit was dug. The mine was abandoned in August, 1865.
The ore is associated with the Conway granite.
