The NGU report on the Langkilen zinc prospects describes 13 individual localities. The Mindat coordinates are for the nr. 1 locality at the map. The entire list can be found below.
Theses zinc deposits were claimed in 1902 and 1925, and prospecting found place during the 1930's, 1975 and 1989.
The stratabound mineralisations can be observed over a length of 3 km, and are up to 400 m wide. The mineralisations occur in a lense-shaped calcite marble with bands and zones of calc-silicate gneiss and garnet-staurolite-mica gneisses, and are enclosed by megaporphyric granodiorite.
Vik (1975) recognizes five different types of mineralisations:
1. alkali-feldspar-rich grossular-staurolite-diopside gneiss (2-5 m wide zones) with weak disseminations of fine-grained pyrrhotite, and minor chalcopyrite/pyrite.
2. Quartz-rich grossular-vesuvianite and amphibole-clinozoisite skarn (1-2 m wide) with pyrrhotite/chalcopyrite in the contact zone between marble and medium-grained granite.
3. Calc-silicate rocks (0,15-10 m wide) consisting of quartz, plagioclase, clinozoisite, pyroxene, vesuvianite and locally wollastonite, containing 10-30 cm wide bands and lenses of semi-massive magnetite-pyrite-sphalerite ore (Storås).
4. Semi-massive pyrrhotite-pyrite-sphalerite ore in strata 20-70 cm wide in a matrix of calcite/calc-silicates embedded in marble (Staulan).
5. Semi-massive pyrrhotite-pyrite-sphalerite ore in 1 m thick calc-silictaes at the contact between mica gneissess and marble (Staulan, Koppvatnmyrene).
