Per Scott Seal, "[t]he Cardiff Mine was first incorporated in 1885, and was the site of the largest ore body encountered in any of the Big Cottonwood Mines. The ore body reportedly was approximately 10 feet and over 350 feet in length, and consisted largely of silver-rich galena ore. When the Wasatch Drain Tunnel was completed in the 1950s, the Cardiff Mine was worked through that portal until 1967, when mining largely ceased in the district."
