A former small Cu-Ag-Au-gemstone occurrence/mine located in the North-central sec. 21, T019S, R25E, G&SRM, ½ mile SE of Turquoise Mountain, near Courtland, on private land. Discovered and first produced in 1908. Owned at times, or in part, by the Great Western Copper Co. and the Hope Mining & Milling Company. The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 500 meters.
Mineralization is oxidized copper ores in irregular and blanket replacement ore bodies in carboniferous Late Cambrian Abrigo Limestone along the top of a thrust breccia just below Bolsa Quartzite. The ore bodies average 15 feet thick. Mineralization pinched out at depth. Local rocks include Paleozoic sedimentary rocks.
Local structures include an overthrust zone of Bolsa Quartzite over Paleozoic rocks. Abrigo Limestone underlies the Bolsa Quartzite in the overlying plate in some areas. The thickness of the overthrust material is about 100 feet.
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of a shaft(s), and total 609.6 meters in length and 91.44 meters deep. Length of workings approximate. The shaft was closed down in 1913. The shaft is now screened as bat habitat. Property is posted against criminal trespass by the state of Arizona authorities.
Production for the Mary Mine is included with the Mame Mine, not reported separately. Workings adjoin the Germania and Maid of Sunshine. About 100,000 tons of ore were produced between early 1900's and 1913, and a few thousand tons from 1925 through 1929.
