A former Cu-Ag-Fe-Pb-Zn occurrence/mine located in secs. 15, 16, 21 & 22, T37N, R8W, 5th. Principal Meridian, 8 miles SW of the town of Ste. Genevieve. Discovered in 1863 by Simon Grass. Operated by Harris, Rozier, and Company (1872). Owned by O.D. Harris (1872-). Year of first production was 1876 and the last was 1916.
Mineralization is a polymetallic deposit hosted in the Late Ordovician Powell Dolomite (limestone) and chert. The ore body is a lenticular chimney (brecciated ore) that strikes N-S and dips 5E at a thickness of 0.91 meter and a depth-to-top of 0 meters. Controls for ore emplacement included open space and limestone strata between chert layers and vertical fractures. Local alteration includes dolomitization and silicification. Local rocks include the Smithville Dolomite, Powell Dolomite Cotter Dolomite and the Jefferson City Dolomite.
Regional geologic structures include the Ozark Dome. Local structures include bedding that dips 5E and faults near, but not at the mines.
Analytical data results: 17.75% Cu, 3.21% Zn, 24.50% Fe, 1.09% S, 53.45% organic matter, silica, carbon and oxygen.
