This historic mine site is a little north of the Half Mile Reef mine, Struck Oil, and Australasia mine, about 7 kilometres south-west of Bardoc.
The mine in 1906 was owned by Peter Quistini, who had crushed 1700 tonnes of ore from development work. He met Kalgoorlie and Boulder mining investors mid 1906, at the Exchange Hotel, and a company was formed to purchase the lease. 12 acres.
A ten head battery was erected, which was opened with the usual pomp, ceremony, and grand promises of things to come. March 1907, at the company's second meeting, various accusations were hurled around leading to the Broad Arrow directors, including its Mayor, to be fired. Benness (surname), largest shareholder and mine manager resigned. The first crushing at the battery had been a failure, and the gold value was so low as to be unpayable.
By October the same year, the mortgagees had seized the property, and the following month the lease and plant was up for sale. This was purchased by a syndicate from Widgiemooltha but no more was found.
The site was reported on in 1934 by a government geologist. It contained three shafts. The first was near the southern boundary at 60 feet deep, with a cross cut at 40 feet on a reef 6 feet wide. The second was also 60 feet deep on a small reef. The third near the northern boundary was 103 feet deep on a reef 12 feet wide at the 40 foot level.
The country rock is hornblende schist, the vein casings often talcose. The lode contained Fe stained quartz veins, divided from one another by intrusions of Cu stained porphyritic rock, which lie between the lode walls that intersect the quartz. Gold is found in grey porphyry containing auriferous quartz veins, in actinolite schist, and actinolite seams, chlorite and talc schist. The lode dips east and is of variable widths from 7 to 12 feet wide.
The mine produced 927.25 tonnes of ore for 779.79 ounces of gold.
