No historic information could be found on the location. Excelsior in 2016 began developing an open pit at the site along with nearby Jackorite, as the first two of several pits it plans to develop in the neighbourhood. Castlereagh is three lodes along a sheared basalt and ultramafic contact, with cross cutting structures. Mineralisation pinches out at depth, but is open along strike possibly 600 metres south to the Parkerville location. Several historic shafts exited at Castlereagh before development, and a large number in the surrounding area. Estimated resources are 46 000 tonnes of ore at 2.23 g/t yielding 4800 ounces of gold.
