The mine first came to notice with the formation of the Bardoc Gold Mine Company in May 1895 in London, to acquire and work the property. The original prospectors could not be found. T D'arcy is one name mentioned linked to the mine, but passed away early 1895.
They initially uncovered rich specimen gold. In August 1896, a rich patch was found in rubbly quartz between the reef and Hanging Wall, at a depth of 80 feet. The mine was sometimes known over this period as the Bardoc, from the company that controlled it.
After 1898, news of rich gold discoveries, and crushings dry up. The company has abandoned the mine by 1902, and Hume and Barker (surnames)are noted as taking over, but little more is subsequently heard.
The Bank of England name has become paramount again. It is a line of shafts and small mullock, often mentioned by exploration companies as a likely target for a mine. It is presently being explored (2016) by Excelsior Gold Limited.
