Outcrop of amphibolitized eclogite on the southwestern rim of Ghiacciaio del Bottarello in the Andolla area, upper Val Loranco. It represents a metabasite boudin, several metres thick, embedded in layered impure dolomite and calcite marble. The rock assemblage belongs to the Furgg zone (Bearth, 1952; Wetzel, 1972), an intensely deformed tectonic element of the Western Alps, that here separates the Monte Rosa nappe from the surrounding Bernhard nappe and Antrona ophiolite.
