Tahuin Dam was built to improve the irrigation of the local farms
There are outcrops of the units Panupali and El Toro in Dam area, both units are part of Raspas Ophiolite complex. It’s difficult to find an outcrop because almost all the rocks are covered by soil, but it’s possible to collect rock samples from the boulders near the Dam.
Panupali unit is the outermost part of the high-pressure metamorphic rocks found at the El Oro Province. Consists of greenschist (albite + quartz + actinolite or glaucophane + epidote + garnet +chlorite + Opaque minerals ± titanite ± calcite).

El Toro units consists of variable serpentinized and foliated harzburgites in which prevails antigorite with small quantities of chrysotile, chlorite, talc, magnesite, garnet and relic minerals (orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, olivine).
