"South of Albi on the N118. Take the D63 and after 5 km the D11 towards Travanet. On the right side of the road, there are two quarries with fluorite, limonite, and sphalerite. To the left, there is the Peyrebrune mine with calcite, galena, siderite, and sphalerite." [Belot, 1978]

The Peyrebrune mine once employed 2,000 miners. The mining here started in Roman times and lasted until 1972. The mine is 520 meters deep, on 25 levels, has 30-35 kilometers of adits, and worked 2,000,000 tons of ore resulting in 65,000 tons of lead, 37,000 tons of zinc and 160 tons of silver.

Some Zn-Pb-veins surface in the Rivet quarry (http://www.mindat.org/loc-20602.html) and the Carceller quarry (http://www.mindat.org/loc-241369.html).
