Carrière Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce (Carrière Calway)
The quarry name is that used in Québec SNRC file 21L07
An active (2011 May) quarry operated since 1985, 8 km East of Saint Joseph de Beauce center on Route Calway. It is in a volcanic rock, basalt and brecciated basalt of the Caldwell formation. It has alpine type(?) veins exposed with quartz, calcite and albite. Also quartz veins with sulfides and some secondaries. Chrysotile asbestos veins in serpentine rock similar to the asbestos mines to the West in the Thetford Mines area.
Impressive quartz specimens were recovered in the late 1990s. The crystals, some up to 20 cm long, are impregnated by clay-like(?) mineral.
