Maojun laterite Fe–Mn deposit
The Maojun laterite Fe–Mn deposit consists of two main ore bodies: the I ore body extends in a NE–SW direction, while the II ore body extends in a NW–SE direction. The ore bodies’ orientation is influenced by two sets of fissures with NE–SW and NW–SE directions. The ore body is narrowly or weakly mineralized in the area where the joints are not developed. The stratified and stratiform ore body has nearly horizontal occurrence with thickness ranging from 0 to 35 m, with typical values of 15 to 30 m. The karstification is deep in the Maojun mine area, and as a result, the surface morphology of the underlying bedrock appears as unevenly dissolved landforms. The top of the bedrock is undulating, and many dissolution fissures and holes have developed in the earthy Fe–Mn-bearing ore layer. From the bottom to the top of the regolith, the various horizons are identified as bedrock (ferromanganese dolomite and dolomitic limestone), soft black–brown clay (clay soil rich in Fe–Mn oxide), red clay (clay soil containing tiny particles of Fe–Mn oxide) and, finally, saprolite (reddish and yellowish clay bed). The ore-bearing regolith can be divided into three zones.
