Reef limestones of the Lower Cambrian Qingxudong formation, which cover a large part of Huayuan County, host numerous lead-zinc deposits and occurrences within a SW-trending belt (variously referred to by various authors as Huyauan belt, Limei belt or Yutang belt). Together with lead-zinc deposits in Songtao and Tongren counties in eastern Guizhou Province, it forms a lead-zinc ore belt that is about 120 km long and 10-20 km wide and contains more than 30 deposits. Fifteen large-medium-sized Zn-Pb deposits were discovered in the Huayuan orefield (central Yangtze Craton). The most important deposits of the Huyuan ore field (Limei and Yutang ore districts) occur in the northern part of this belt, about 10-25 km southwest of Huayuan City. They contain predominantly zinc and only minor galena. Towards the south, the size of the deposits decreases and the galena content increases.
