Miniera Montedoro (Miniera di sali potassici di Montedoro), Giacimento salifero di Racalmuto, Racalmuto, Provincia di Agrigento (Provincia di Girgenti), Sicilia, Italia
Abandoned potash mine located at Contrada Perciata, to the northeast of Racalmuto.
The distinction between Montedoro mine and Racalmuto mine [see http://www.mindat.org/loc-271317.html] is made on the basis of administrative considerations (different mining concessions) only, because the mined ore beds are the same for both mines.
The potash ore sequence consists of an upper sylvite-carnallite layer and five lower mineable kainite layers separated by halite layers of various thickness. Bischofite zones and kiserite nodules can be found in the carnallite mineralisation.
In samples from Montedoro mine the bromine and rubidium content has been determined: the bromine content is 0.106 wt.% in halite and 0.097 wt.% in kainite; the rubidium content in kainite is 2.7 ppm (Kuehn, 1972).
