A pegmatite in the Archean Southern Complex Gneiss. The exposure is a small dome cut by an old railroad bed, now a snowmobile trail, located about 500 m west of highway M-95, a few miles north of the village of Republic. The pegmatite is noted for purple and yellow-green, anhedral masses of fluourite which contain rare-earth minerals. The pegmatite is most easily sampled from the boulders that were blasted out of the cut and now languish in the thickets a few paces to the north and west of the cut. Each appears to have been vigorously pecked at by rockhounds past.
