“8.0 x 5.4 x 5.0 cm. Chalcocite (Cu2S) coats a large, dynamic cluster of chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) perched on a mass of hackly quartz. Tiny chalcopyrite crystals surrounded by coronas of malachite (or maybe another green, secondary copper mineral) add another interesting element to this specimen. The termination of the largest crystal is tipped; however, this provides a window through the chalcocite layer. A string of tiny, euhedral chalcocite crystals runs along the face of the main crystal. Ex David and Emily Stoudt Collection.
