Name:
Named for being the Fe2+ (ferro) dominant analogue of merrillite. The root name is for George P. Merrill (1854-1929), Curator of Geology, U.S. National Museum (Smithsonian Institution).
Type Locality:
Fe2+-dominant analogue of Merrillite.
Chemically similar to 'ferrohagendorfite' and kapundaite (the latter contains water); somewhat similar to wicksite.
Grains are strongly deformed (7-degree angular mosaicity) due to impact shock, but that was not high enough (not over 23 GPa) for the transformation to tuite.
