Summary:
The Snipe prospect is located in Section 13, T9S, R2W, SBM; approximately 2.5 miles northeast of Pala. The primary workings consist of two shallow adits measuring approximately 20 and 80 feet long respectively, developed within a series of pegmatite dikes. These adits are situated at the center of the patented Oceanview lode mining claim, and visible from the modern mine access roadway looking north. Elevation approx. 1270' AMSL.
History:
In 1939, orthoclase was reported by Tucker and Reed to have been mined by H. E. Dougherty, San Diego, from a thin pegmatite dike. Around September of 2000, Otto Komarek of Pala developed a narrow trail to the old adits using a small skid steer loader.
