A former Hg mine located in sec. 24, T7N, R6W (MD), about 7 miles W of Oakville. Owned by Mr. James Doherty. Discovered 1865. Operated 1873, 1915 - 1918, 1929 - 1934, 1936 - 1939, and 1942.
Mineralization is hosted in serpentinite. Aphanitic volcanic rock is the associated unit. The ore bodies are pods striking N50W, dipping SW at 10.97 meters thick, 91.44 meters wide and 53.34 meters long. Alteration is local as silica alteration of serpentine. Ore control was changes in fault attitudes and brecciation of the silica-carbonate rock.
Workings include underground openings totaling 16615.44 meters in length and 76.2 meters deep.
Production data are found in U.S.Bureau of Mines file data. Ore was more than 5-12 pounds/ton (4,292 g/mt).
