Cuisian lenticular kaolinite deposit of siderolitic type, overlain by Lutecian Perigord sands (quartz, micas, feldspars, smectites).
Presence of nodular concretions (10 cm diameter) in sandy kaolinite layers.
These nodules show an outer crust of iron oxides and quartz clastic grains, an inner lining of baryte, gibbsite, iron and lead sulfates. The core of the nodules is filled by pulverulent pyrite (with iron sulfates) and authigenic automorphic quartz.
Formation during Eocene, in a lacustrine/deltaic subtropical environment.
The original materials were leached from lateritic coatings on West border of French Massif Central.
The Li-rich (up to 140 ppm) kaolinites were herited from weathered leucogranites from Massif Central.
