Dare Colliery was opened in 1870 by D. Davies and Co Ltd and later operated by the Ocean Coal Co. Ltd. By 1896 the mine employed 1072 men.
In 1955, Dare Colliery was amalgamated with the nearby Parc Colliery and became known as the Park and Dare colliery.
The Park & Dare Colliery closed in 1965 and the tips have subsequently been landscaped.
