Celestine crystals filling geodes in Permian carbonate rock near the villages of Pechishchi and Morkvashi are known since the beginning of the 20th century. Large geodes up to 2 kg in weight accumulated in the beach sediments of the the right bank of the Volga River.

The old beach is currently inundated with the waters of the Kuybyshev Reservoir and new specimens are now very rarerly found.
