Within the area of Wattenheim village former copper, silver and iron mines were located. Today most of the mining area is completely overbuilt and no more traces of the former mines are visible or accessible.
The mines date back to around 1600 but probably started earlier. Last activities were between 1905 and 1907 but didn't lead to commercial success.
