A modified geological description (after Hairapetian et al. 2020) of the Larak Island is as follow.
This lenticular island (7 km long by 4 km wide) is also situated in the north of the Strait of Hormuz, about 40 km S of the port of Bandar Abbas. Together with Hormuz Island it represents the easternmost exposure of salt diapirs in the Persian Gulf. The local coral limestones cover a basal conglomerate containing blocks of rhyolite tuffs and boulders of hematite. In the central western part of the island clastic sediments, represented often by pink sandstone, and abundant rhyolites and associated tuffs occur, as well as small bodies composed mostly of alkaline feldspar. Large blocks of gray pyroxene-biotite granitoids and feldspar porphyry can be found in the center of the Island. Huge iron ore lenses (to 6 m thick and 100 m long) with well crystallized hematite were described by Walther (1972).
In the eastern margin of the salt dome, vugs with well-developed baryte crystals have been found. Weathered patches of the dome, near the center of the Island, have yielded zunyite in various shapes, including euhedral crystals and twins, monomineralic clusters and matrix specimens. Associated with the zunyite are single crystals of hematite (some to 7.3 cm!) and fluorite (to 1.5 cm). Some short prismatic danburite crystals of light grey to smoky color have been collected in April 2020.
