Just north of Nsanje southwards to the border with Mozambique, biotite-nepheline gneisses form long, narrow bands which have been deformed in broad open folds (Bloomfield 1958, 1968).
Approx coords range: 16º53'- 17º09'S; 35º03' - 35º15'E.
The nepheline-bearing gneiss of Mwamwini Hill has been investigated as a potential source of nepheline for ceramic industry (Allen & Charsley 1968). Alluvial deposits of corundum have been investigated as a possible economic resource (Bloomfield 1958).
