Tin, copper and arsenic. Last active in 1926 when copper was precipitated from the run off from the dumps.
Ref: Richardson P.H.G. (1991) Mines of Dartmoor & the Taymar Valley after 1913, Devon Books, Tiverton.
A very extensive site, from the crooked chimney on the hilltop at the top of the arsenic flue to the rock dumps beside the river. A group of buildings are on the hillside just above the red sand dumps, which are said to contain 124,000 tons of material and do seem to go on forever. The remains of a small arsenic labyrinth is located directly below these dumps. (Visiting in Sept 2023 the arches and brickwork of the labyrinth that were there in 2004 have been demolished and covered over).
Further on down towards the river are more dumps now heavily overgrown, a massive set of lime kilns and many other buildings. Further rock dumps associated with King's Shaft are downstream towards the old brickworks chimney (Oct 2004).
Between 2018/19 and 2023 extensive work has been carried out to clear away the undergrowth from the buildings and shore up the unstable walls with scaffold. Nevertheless in March 2023 it was clear that there had been several recent collapses at the buildings on the hillside and one of the calciners.
