An intrusion of early a Jurassic microsyenite that builds the prominent peak of Mount Gibraltar is 2.4 km in length, with a max width of 900 metres.

Mount Gibraltar has been quarried for construction material and building stone from 1869 to 1986.

It is sometimes described commercially as the Bowral trachyte.
