Numerous patches of volcanic rocks, referred to formerly as the Trap Series, but as the Yemen Volcanics by Grolier & Overstreet (1978), occur in a rectangular area lying north and south of Sadah. They include basanites, tephrites, phonolites and comendites (Capaldi et al. 1983).
