Translated by Perplexity.ai from NGU report 2622:
The Bodin field consists of the 4 mines Hopen, Tussvatnet, Storfjellet, and Brattfjell.
The first indications were staked in 1895, and exploration began in 1897 in Storfjellet (Ures mine) and stopped in 1898. In 1901, a nearby adit (Lykkens Prøve) was started. Hopen mine was discovered in 1900, and production started immediately. From the first work in the field in 1896 or -97, production continued in all 4 mines more or less continuously until 1909. There was minor test mining in 1911 and 1916. R.M.B. Schølberg in Bodø was the owner of the mines.
In the period 1901-1909, approximately 1400 tons of ore containing approximately 180 tons of Cu were delivered from Hopen mine. The saleable products contained up to 20% Cu, on average about 13% Cu. In 1916, 502 tons of ore were extracted; from which mine is not specified. Poulsen (1964) reports the total production from the mines as 4525 tons with Cu content of approximately 400 tons. About 30 people worked at the mines. The ore was transported by horse to Valle. From there, it went by cargo barge to Finneid and further to Sulitjelma for further processing. The finished product was transported back to Finneid and shipped out.
All 4 mines in the Bodin field occur in (Hopen and Tussvatnet) or along the contacts of (Brattfjell and Storfjellet) a rock unit that on the geological maps Bodø (Gustavson 1991) and Valnesfjord (Brattli 1990) is called amphibolite-biotite-antigorite schist (locally banded and locally massive). In older reports, it is interpreted as (saussurite-)gabbro and diorite. It may possibly be komatiitic/picritic lavas. Inclusions of mica schist are common.
