The company was formed in 1875, with the amalgamation of part of the Black Hill Company, Black Hill South Company, and Railway Reserve Company. The mine is let to tributers, with a winding plant erected, and 20% royalty on gold found. Active mining continued until the mid 1880's. Grades were general low, with the occasional rich patch of nuggets enabling the company to continue operations.
Charles Morris is mine manager, appointed in 1878 after prior manager Nicholas Harry died. An engine was erected purchased from the Prince of Wales Mine No. 3 shaft Sebastopol.
February 1876 in a few days 311 ounces in nuggets were uncovered by a tributing party. Information found was prosaic details of mine workings, with variable information of veins found, often thin with sparse gold, and sometimes rich patches. The Pandora Box claim was taken over in 1876, and an allotment belonging to a Mr. Franklyn purchased.
For the last half year 1877 the mine produced 3285 tonnes of ore yielding 1737 ounces of gold. In 1878 the Spanhakes claim was purchased on the eastern Indicator Lode. A prospecting shaft was sunk at the southern end of the claim on the Oregon Lode then quickly abandoned as unprofitable. In the last half of 1880 the company produced 2524 tonnes of ore yielding 1973 ounces of gold. The last half of 1881 700 tonnes of ore was produced yielding 909 ounces of gold. In 1881 it took over the Dan Brophy claim on tribute paying 12.5% on gold found over a ten year lease.
In 1897, Hopkin Jenkins requested from the warden the forfeiture of the United Black Hill, and four leases of the Black Hill companies for non compliance of labour conditions. It is stated the United Black Hill leases no work had been conducted on them for the prior three years, with the battery crushing for the public. Forfeiture was granted.
