Name(s) in local language(s):
Pozzo Cesano 4, Campo geotermico di Cesano, Lago di Bracciano, Roma, Lazio, Italia
Cesano 4 geothermal well was drilled in 1976 by the AGIP-ENEL joint venture (ENEL, the National Electrical Energy Agency, as operator) to a depth 3128 m, outside the Baccano caldera.
Realgar widely occurrence at depths below 1500 m. Rare euhaedral crystals of epidote are present in the deeper parts of well Cesano 4, apparently on the walls of the small marcasite veins found at the transition between the Lower Lias carbonate units and the Rhaetian dolomitic units.
Feldspathoid mineralisations are present at a depth of approximately 2900 m, at the passage between the Lower Lias and the Rhaetian. Here sodalite and nosean were found associated with leucite, K feldspar, haüyne and phlogopite, related to a dyke emplacement. These types of association are in agreement with participation of various salts from the evaporitic levels in the mineralised system. These are: CaSO4, which is supposed to favour the genesis of haüyne; NaCl, which is supposed to allow formation of sodalite; Na2SO4, which may justify the formation of nosean. Phlogopite and pyrite mineralisations were recognised only in the deeper parts of well Cesano 4 (in the Upper Trias dolomites and dolomitised limestones) at the margins of a dyke of trachytic composition.
