Pegmatite hosted in highmetamorhic carbonates of the tectonic unit "Tranomaro group". It is located 3km SSW of Morafeno (Behier 1960), south of Tranomaro, about 50 km north of Amboasary, and about 70 km NW of the town of Fort Dauphin (Tôlanaro).
Exploitation for quartz started by the Swiss company Freres Hibon (Hibon brothers) in the 1950s. After 1975 runned by the SOMEMA company, which worked the area in 1993-2000 and found several pockets with bicoloured blue and red
tourmaline, as well several “pencils” of gemmy polychrome tourmaline crystals (Pezzotta and Jobin 2003).
Coordinates based on map and description in Pezzotta (2004), not confirmed.
